SPINE SURGERY (MIS) SET FOR LAUNCH

Mazor Surgical Technologies launches the first SpineAssist Minimal Invasive Platform

Caesaria, Israel  October 19, 2004 –  MAZOR Surgical Technologies, the developer of the SpineAssist, a miniature robotic positioning tool to assist surgeons during spine surgeries, is now set to launch a revolutionary development. Based on SpineAssist platform technology, this new development allows surgeons the ability to perform complete Minimal Invasive Spine (MIS) Surgery using only the smallest of incisions. Surgeons will now be able to position and place surgical tools totally unintrusively in a wide range of approaches and techniques.

SpineAssist MIS system is a breakthrough in the field of spinal surgery. It will allow spine surgeons to perform spinal procedures using smaller or no incisions with minimal tissue disruption. The Minimal Invasive Spinal Fusion procedure, based on SpineAssist technology, has the potential to significantly reduce muscle damage, shorten recovery time and greatly improve patient and doctor safety by diminishing exposure to x-ray radiation.

Mazor has recently announced the signing of commercial agreements with several of the most reputable and lucrative spine centers in the US. Initial installation was in the Cleveland Clinic with more installations, such as the Texas Back Institute and other major centers soon to be announced.

Every year over 500,000 spine surgeries are performed in the US alone, with an average growth rate of 8% per annum. This creates a large potential market for the SpineAssist. According to analyst's reports covering the orthopedic and spine industry, in which Mazor plays a major role, spinal procedures are expected to triple within the next 8 years, reaching annual sales of 7 billion dollars.

Mazor's CEO, Ori Hadomi, states "I trust that the Minimal Invasive Surgery capabilities, which are now fully integrated in the SpineAssist system, will pave the way for new markets, procedures and users in spine and other orthopedic applications."

Founded by Professor Moshe Shoham under the Technion Incubator in 2001, the company's main offices are located in Israel, with recently opened offices in the US. To date, Mazor has raised over 9.5 million dollars in a seed round. Several international VC companies have invested in Mazor, among them are Johnson & Johnson DC, Alice Ventures, Shalom E.F, Dor Ventures, Proseed and ITP.
